The year 2021 is the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables, and particularly the 7th of June was the World Food Safety Day. Fedalcyta and ISEKI-Food Association celebrated these two initiatives by organising an online seminar with the title “Safety in the international year of fruits and vegetables”.
During this event, several experts from the University of Zaragoza, the Autonomous University of Barcelona and the food industry (PATURPAT) discussed about potential risks in the fruit and vegetable sector and talked about heat treatment and disinfection of fruits and vegetables.
Among them, Dr Luis Mayor representing the Erasmus+ Project, EQVEGAN, presented the activities of the project and particularly, the trainings based on new competences (e.g. sustainability and digitalisation) that will be required in the future in the food sector. Dr Mayor explained the skills and competences of professionals in the plant-based processed sector that need to be developed through academic training, learning in the workplace and certification of professional profiles. Also, he announced the Food Skills portal that will soon allow access to the main results of the project. The event was successfully attended by over 170 participants from around the world.
